For those about to rock…

Rocks and gems are at the very centre of our lives. They touch every part of all life on Earth, the largest rocky planet in our solar system.

However, those rocks and gems would be nothing without minerals – the building blocks from which they are all made. Rocks are made of one or more minerals and gems are simply the shiny, beautiful minerals (or combination of minerals) that, for some strange reason, thrill and delight humans more than others.

It’s near impossible to imagine a world without gold, silver, diamonds, iron, quartz and salt, and they are just the obvious examples of the hundreds of rocks and gems that help us, excite us and keep us alive.

Over the next 100 pages or so, you’ll see how our story is a tiny part of their story, an epic saga that began around four billion years ago and continues to dazzle…
