As the evenings get darker and the cold creeps in, humans have long embraced autumn as a time for telling spooky stories. Tales of ghosts and witches. Goblins and ghouls.
A good scare can be fun, when it’s on your own terms. Whether it’s a movie with friends, a haunted house at a theme park or a gripping book, there’s nothing quite like the tingle of anticipation when you know something scary is about to happen. Goosebumps spreading up your arms, breath held… then, bam! You jump in fright, maybe grab a friend’s arm and laugh with relief. It’s all part of the fun.
But there are also times when it’s not fun to feel afraid or anxious. That knot in your stomach. Feeling like you can’t enjoy what’s going on right now because you’re thinking about something in the future. For some, this happens every Sunday. As the weekend winds down and Monday looms large, worry builds. It’s so common, there’s a name for it: Sunday-night blues. And it’s not just limited to school years. Many adults get Sunday blues, too. (Even if they don’t admit it.)
It may be common, but that doesn’t mean it has to rule your Sunday. In fact, there are ways to ease the blues and make Sundays more enjoyable. If you learn these techniques now, it can set you up for the rest of your life.
Some things will always be scary. Creepy dolls, monsters under the bed, unexpected maths tests. But Mondays? They don’t have to be scary at all.
